Teachers, Administrators Freeze Pay

Today’s Great Falls Tribune reports on the results of yesterday’s pay negotiations between the schools and the teachers.  Showing their commitment to our community, the Great Falls Public Schools teachers’ union has agreed to a pay freeze for the coming year.

In most past years, the Administration has followed the same pay as the teachers.  GFPS employees are committed to the education of the youth in our community, and they are demonstrating that commitment here!

Citizen Comments From The GFPS School Board Meeting; 4/11/11; 7 pm

“I am in support of the levy. A good education is the foundation of our community, and we depend on all staff to get kids what they need:  a good quality education. “

“The District has cut $4.6 million dollars over the last few years.  It is not unreasonable what the district is asking and I support  the levy.”

“My husband and I are business owners here in Great Falls and the cost of levy is a lot more to a business owner than a home owner.  We have never considered not supporting schools and a proud supporters of the levy.”

“I am in support of schools and would never think of voting against the levy.  The District provides great opportunities that make students well rounded.”

“ I feel that what schools are doing is terrific and I hope that music is not a place that the District will have to cut.  I will keep supporting what the schools are doing.”

“I am in support of the levy.  Quality education is very important for our kids’ futures and for them to succeed.”

“I attended school in Great Falls which prepared me for college and set the foundation for my life.  All administrators and teachers are helping students prepare for the future and I am in favor of the levy.”

“I am in favor of the levy.  The quality of education in Great Falls makes for a productive citizen.”

“I have been in Great Falls since 1954 and have never not voted for a levy.  I also do not feel that administrators and teachers get paid too much.  They all work very hard and continue to work to improve education so students can get out and get good jobs.  I will continue to support GFPS and urge everyone to put signs in their yards in support of the levy.”

“I am in support of the levy.  I represent Native American children and education is very important to them to make something of their lives.”

“I am in support of the levy.  Schools are very important and are a reflection of our community.  Schools are the backbone of the community.”

“ I feel that the levy is more than deserving.  The district is doing a phenomenal job. My concern with cutting programs – it discriminates against kids whose talents lie in that area.”

“I am in support of the levy and I hope that all trustee candidates who are running are also in favor it.  GFPS has a proud history and provides so many opportunities for kids to shine.”

“I support the levy and I don’t want my kids to miss out on anything.”

“We are receiving excellent value for our dollar and I am in support of the levy.”

How Much will the 2011 Education Levy Cost a Property Owner?

BASIC INFORMATION: The District is asking for $998,000 or 9.21 mills.  This levy would cost a homeowner $15.71 per year on a home’s taxable market value of $100,000.

YOUR INFORMATION: Every property owner can figure out what the levy will cost for their property.

  • Just go to the website below, click on WEBTAX and find the “Net Taxable” value on the page.
  • You need the first and last name of the property owner.  You can also use Property Tax ID, property address, geo code, subdivision information, and legal description.
  • To determine what the levy amount is, multiply the “Net Taxable” dollar amount by .00921.
  • For example, the Net Taxable Value of a property that has a taxable market value of $100,000 is $1706.  If the property owner multiplies $1706 X .00921, the mill levy will cost the owner $15.71.
